On April 27,at the Diocesan Social Justice Secretariat Gathering, St. Patrick Parish received the " Best Practices" Diocesan Award for ADVOCACY AND COMMUNITY COLLABORATION. The write-up accompanying the award explained:
"This parish Social Justice Commission is outstanding for its work in many areas, including advocacy for the unemployed and underemployed; work with township, state and federal governments to improve public transportation; and advocacy for low income housing. They have involved parishioners in advocacy efforts such as Bread for the World' "Offering of Letters." writing letters to President Bush regarding the Darfur Crisis, and a letter writing campaign around the Commodities Food Support Program for the elderly, which won Representative Hoekstra's support. They are leading efforts to educate parishioners regarding the immigration reform issue."
Present to receive the Award were Father Bill Langlois, Betsy Ripple, Bud and Mary Lothschutz, Sean and Nancy O'Neill, Kathy Richards, Mary Grillo, Fran Olech, and Jim DeSpelder.
